INCUMBENT Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative Director Virgilio Calajate was re-elected on the Badoc-Pinili district after no one challenged his re-election bid.
The district election, which was set for November 6, gave 10 days prior to the date for other candidates to file their candidacy; however no one has filed until the 10-day pe- riod lapsed.
Reacting to this, Calajate ex- pressed his gratitude to all the people in his district for the trust and confidence they extended to him as he was given again a fresh mandate to represent them.
Calajate, who would be on his second term, promised to continue his projects, especially for the “pro- poor” programs of the cooperative, as he added that his hometown of Badoc, Ilocos Norte is almost 100 percent energized—or there is elec- tricity service on almost all of the municipality.
In Pinili however, Calajate said that it he is still in the process of starting the project due to the numerous requests from the different barangays.
He promised to entertain all requests in his second term as direc- tor of the said district.
He stressed that this is the rea- son he aspired to become an INEC director, to help his constituents be given electricity services.
He also theorized that the reason why nobody ran against him may be due to his true service to the people.
INEC Board Pres. Reynaldo Lazo confirmed that Calajate would again be the district director for the towns of Badoc and Pinili district.
As he ran unopposed, Lazo believes that the people of Calajate’s district appreciated his service to the people as he was given a new two-year term.
The INEC management mean- while stated that even if Calajate was running unopposed, they still held the election to formalize his electoral victory as one vote was needed to officially elect him.
In a related development, election for the towns of Marcos, Nueva Era and Banna, or District II will be on November 13; District 1 (Pagudpud, Bangui, Adams and Dumalneg) will be on November 20 and District 4 (San Nicolas and Laoag City South of the River) on November 27.
As of the Dingras District elec- tion which was earlier set on De- cember 4, Lazo said that they will just wait for the peace and order assessment coming from the PNP provincial command after which, the board will decide whether to push through with the election or not.
