Laoag’s Pamulinawen Festival 2011 begins

THE MONTH-LONG Pamul inawen Fe s t ival was kicked off by a colorful civicmilitary parade on February 1, 2011 and which was participated in by all offices of the Laoag City government, led by elected officials; other government agencies, private business establishments, public and private schools, the city’s barangay officials and the city’s Philippine National Police. Laoag police chief P/Supt. Sterling Blanco, who was in charge of the overall peace and order situation during the parade, thanked the people who cooperated to make the opening parade of the city’s fiesta celebration orderly and peaceful.

In view of this, Blanco stressed that the city’s police is now ready to keep the peace and order for the month-long Pamulinawen Festival. He expounded that the police already has security plans in place for all the fiesta events— both in day and night times. However, he pointed out that the police and other security officers need the help of the public in maintaining peace and order so the city could have a merry celebration of its annual fiesta.

Blanco also disclosed that he has already asked the help of the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO), through provincial director P/Sr. Supt. Marlou Chan for an augmentation force and which was approved.

Blanco further stated that they would also solicit the assistance of barangay tanods, or village security officers, specifically in the barangays where events would be held.

In another front, the city’s traffic division chief SPO4 Ramelito Piedad reported that a new traffic scheme for the duration of the fiesta has been approved. He also asked the public’s indulgence should they be stuck in traffic during some parades for the whole duration of the celebration.

After the opening parade, the country’s RNB prince JayR and princess Kyla wowed the audience in a concert held at the Provincial Capitol outdoor stage. Popular band Kamikazee also performed.
